Area rugs are not just small carpets. They are usually a finer fiber, they are often dyed with colors that can bleed, and because they sit on top of a hard floor they trap soil on both sides. A rug that looks clean can hold several pounds of dry soil in its foundation.
Wool, viscose and silk-blend rugs need low-pH wool-safe solutions and careful moisture control. Synthetics tolerate a more aggressive clean. We identify the fiber and the construction first, dust the rug to release dry soil, test every dye for bleeding, then clean with the method that fits.
Straightforward rugs are cleaned in place with a rinse and controlled drying. Valuable, heavily soiled or pet-damaged rugs come back to our shop for full immersion washing and flat drying, which is the only way to properly rinse a rug all the way through. Pick-up and delivery in our service area is free.
