Upholstery collects far more than it looks like it does: body oils, sunscreen, food, pet dander and the everyday soil that transfers off clothing. Because most of it is oily rather than dry, it does not vacuum out, and the fabric slowly goes flat and dull instead of visibly dirty.
Every piece gets a fiber test first. Cotton, linen, microfiber, chenille, velvet, leather and synthetic blends all behave differently, and the wrong amount of moisture on the wrong fabric causes shrinkage, browning or watermarks. We use a low-moisture upholstery tool with adjustable pressure, hand-detail the arms, seams and headrests, and finish with a fabric-safe deodorizer.
Cushions are cleaned on both sides and dried separately so they do not sit damp against the frame. Most sofas are ready to use again the same evening.
